Google Business Profile Management for Nottingham Businesses

Improve how your business appears on Google without risking the profile

A Google Business Profile lets an eligible business manage the information customers see in Google Search and Maps — including its name, categories, hours, phone number, services, photos and reviews.

I set up, audit, correct and manage profiles for businesses serving Nottingham. Profile audits start at £75, optimisation at £145, and suspension investigation at £145. Ongoing management is £39 a month with no minimum term.

Accurate information helps customers understand and contact an eligible local business.

Is this happening to your profile?

  • The business is missing from Google Maps or appears only for its name
  • Nobody knows which account controls the profile
  • A previous agency still holds access
  • Google is offering an unexpected verification method
  • The category or contact information is wrong
  • The profile and website show different information
  • Reviews arrive without responses
  • Public edits keep changing details
  • A duplicate profile confuses customers
  • The profile is restricted, suspended or disabled

These symptoms do not share one solution. The first step is to establish eligibility, ownership and the profile’s current standing before changing anything.

If several genuine branches or franchise locations need coordinated ownership, approvals and reporting, see Multi-Location SEO.

The foundation

What is a Google Business Profile?

Google Business Profile is Google’s free system for eligible businesses to manage information that appears in Google Search and Maps. It was previously called Google My Business; Business Profile is the current name.

A profile can show the business name, categories, address or service area, phone number, website and appointment links, opening and special hours, services, photos, reviews and updates. Creating one is free. Professional auditing, optimisation and management are paid services.

A profile supports local visibility, but it does not replace a useful website or a complete Local SEO strategy. Our map pack and organic results guide explains how the two surfaces differ and where to measure each.

Who can have a Google Business Profile?

Eligibility depends on how a business operates in the real world. Google requires in-person contact with customers at a genuine customer-facing location or at the customer’s premises. Our step-by-step setup guide explains eligibility, claiming and verification in order.

Business type Address treatment Customer contact
Shopfront An eligible customer-facing address may be displayed Customers visit you
Service-area The address should be hidden when customers are not served there You travel to customers
Hybrid An eligible location may be displayed with genuine service areas Both
Online-only Usually ineligible No in-person contact

Google makes the final eligibility decision under its guidelines for representing your business.

You do not need a Nottingham office

An eligible service-area business can travel to customers in Nottingham without displaying an address. Selecting Nottingham as a service area does not create a Nottingham presence or guarantee visibility across the city.

Virtual offices used only for Maps visibility, PO boxes, borrowed addresses, false shopfronts, separate profiles for individual services and locations that do not operate independently are not an acceptable basis for a profile.

To request help from SEO Agency Nottingham, send an online enquiry with your website address and a description of the issue. We review enquiries Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm. Your own Business Profile should accurately reflect where and how you meet customers.

Address, service area and distance in Nottingham

Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, explained here with Google’s own wording. Profile edits cannot change the physical distance between your business and a searcher. Distance can affect which businesses appear for searches made in different parts of Nottingham.

The city centre is not the middle of the market. A customer searching from Beeston may see different businesses from someone searching in Hucknall. Distance is one factor alongside relevance and prominence. Checking your own ranking from your own premises tells you very little about what a customer four miles away sees.

Distance from Nottingham city centre to Hucknall and Beeston, showing why the same Business Profile ranks differently for searchers in each
The same profile looks different to customers in different parts of the city.

Coverage often crosses the county line as well. Ilkeston and Long Eaton are in Derbyshire, and plenty of Nottingham businesses serve both. Listing them as service areas is correct if you genuinely travel there. It does not create a presence in either town, and it will not make you appear on the map there.

What it must never become is a city-centre address you do not occupy. A virtual office or borrowed address is among the most reliable ways to lose the profile altogether.

What the profile can and cannot do

Clear services, hours and contact options Visibility across every selected service area
Calls, website visits and direction requests That an interaction becomes a customer

One-off profile work

What optimisation covers — £145

Optimisation corrects and improves an eligible profile. Before creating or changing anything, I check whether the business appears eligible and whether a profile already exists. Where one exists, the appropriate step is normally to claim it or request access instead of creating a duplicate.

Eligibility, ownership and accuracy

Verification standing, who controls the profile, the real-world business name, phone number, links, hours, address visibility and service areas. For hospitality venues, see our guide to menus, booking links and opening hours.

Categories, services and presentation

A suitable primary category, genuine additional categories and services, an accurate description, appropriate attributes and genuine imagery.

Reviews, edits and duplicates

Existing feedback, responses where appropriate, suggested edits, duplicate profiles and policy risks.

Website alignment

Consistency between the profile, contact details and the most relevant website landing pages.

Optimisation does not mean inserting keywords into every field. Adding more categories is not automatically better. Google decides which verification methods are available and may ask for video, phone, email or other evidence.

The audit on its own — £75

If you only need to understand what is wrong, I will audit the profile and report it for £75. Each material finding covers what was observed, why it matters, relevant policy, the recommended action, priority and responsibility.

If you commission optimisation within 30 days, the £75 comes off the £145. This is a profile audit, not the full SEO audit with implementation.

You should own your profile. I should only manage it.

The business owner should retain primary ownership. I use manager access and that access is removed when the work ends. You should not hand over your main Google Account password, and your recovery information remains with you.

Our website ownership checklist explains how to check your Business Profile role alongside Search Console, Google Analytics, domain and hosting access.

This also limits risk: Google treats owners and managers differently when accounts are restricted. An agency should not permanently control the profile it manages for you.

If someone else already holds your profile

If a former agency, employee or unknown account controls the profile, ownership can be requested through Google. Google contacts the current owner and allows three days to respond. Depending on the response, you may be able to claim the profile or appeal a refusal.

I establish who holds the profile, submit the request correctly and prepare evidence where an appeal is appropriate. I cannot compel a transfer. See Google’s request ownership documentation.

The profile and website should agree

A customer should not find one phone number on the profile and another on the website. I compare the business name, phone number, displayed address, service areas, opening hours, services, website and appointment links, and contact-page details.

Our guide to Google Business Profile questions and answers changes explains what Google has confirmed and where to keep customer answers accurate now.

This is not an exact-formatting ranking formula. It removes contradictions that confuse customers and can make verification or management harder.

Google Business Profile information aligned with the corresponding business website
The profile and website should describe the same real business.

Website copy and landing pages belong under Content and On-Page SEO. Indexing, canonical and structured-data problems belong under Technical SEO.

Photos and updates

Useful photographs help customers recognise the business: its exterior and entrance, interior, accessibility, team, real work, equipment, vehicles and completed projects.

Stock or AI-generated images must not be presented as real premises, staff or work. Images must respect copyright, privacy and customer consent.

Google Posts can communicate service updates, seasonal information, events, genuine offers and guidance. Posting to a fixed schedule is not a documented ranking mechanism. Post creation is included in ongoing management.

Reviews: what I will and will not do

I can provide the official review link, identify suitable request moments, draft neutral wording, help staff ask consistently, monitor reviews, draft responses and report content that may breach policy.

I will not buy or write reviews, incentivise positive reviews, review-gate, ask employees or friends, pressure reviewers, attack competitors or publish private information.

Legitimate criticism cannot be removed on request. Google decides under its Maps content policy.

Policy-aware support

If your profile is suspended — from £145

I investigate suspensions and prepare appeals. Investigation and a first appeal start at £145. Re-appeals after a rejection and cases involving multiple profiles or account-level restrictions are quoted after investigation.

A suspension should be diagnosed before an appeal is submitted. I review eligibility and policy compliance, check the name, categories, address and service-area setup, correct legitimate problems where access allows, gather genuine evidence, submit the appeal and monitor Google’s response.

Our guide to appealing a suspended profile explains the steps and evidence in detail.

Google Business Profile suspension review process from policy check and evidence preparation to appeal submission and Google's decision
Policy compliance, evidence preparation and appeal submission precede Google’s review and decision.

Four facts to understand before appealing

  • Prepare evidence before you start. Google’s current instructions have you attach it before submitting, though one UK help page still describes a 60-minute evidence form. If your tool shows that form, complete it straight away.
  • Do not submit duplicate appeals. Wait for a decision on the existing appeal.
  • Do not create a replacement profile for the same business while an appeal is under review.
  • UK and EEA businesses have broader appeal routes for certain rejected edits and media restrictions than businesses in some other regions.

Google states that appeal reviews and decisions can take up to five business days. That is Google’s stated window, not a commitment from SEO Agency in Nottingham.

Read Google’s current suspension guidance and appeal procedure before acting.

Google makes the final decision. I can diagnose the likely cause, correct legitimate problems and prepare evidence properly. I cannot promise reinstatement or a decision by a particular date.

Optimisation and ongoing management are different

How I work

1. Confirm eligibility and objectives

How customers are served, whether a profile exists and what needs solving.

2. Confirm ownership and access

You keep ownership; I use manager access.

3. Audit the profile and website

Against the real operation, Google’s policies and the website.

4. Prioritise and agree

Eligibility, ownership, accuracy and policy risk come before enhancements.

5. Implement and check

Approved changes are made and checked on the live profile.

6. Establish management

Where included, we agree responsibility for hours, reviews, images, posts and reporting.

How performance is reviewed

Google may report profile appearances, search terms, call clicks, website clicks, direction requests, bookings and messages where supported, alongside review activity.

A call click does not prove a call connected. A direction request does not prove a visit. Local rank-grid tools show sampled observations from selected points, not one universal Maps position. Google also changes what it reports; see its Business Profile performance documentation.

The useful question is whether the profile represents the business accurately and produces relevant customer actions.

What I cannot promise

I cannot promise approval for an ineligible business, a particular verification method, a permanent Maps or Local Pack position, visibility across every service area, removal of legitimate criticism, removal of all reported content, reinstatement, transfer from an unwilling owner, an appeal decision by a given date or that every interaction becomes a customer.

Google controls verification, moderation, review decisions and result selection. What I can do is establish the profile’s real condition, identify accuracy and policy problems, implement approved corrections, align it with the website and report what happened accurately.

Frequently asked questions

Can you guarantee Google Maps rankings?
No. Google controls Maps and Local Pack results, which vary between queries, locations and searchers.
Can you remove a negative review?
No provider controls review removal. I can report content that may breach policy; Google decides.
Should an agency own my profile?
No. You should retain ownership while the agency receives appropriate manager access.
How long does a suspension appeal take?
Google states that appeal reviews and decisions can take up to five business days. Outcomes and timing are not guaranteed.
What is the difference between profile management and Local SEO?
Profile management covers the profile itself. Local SEO also covers the website, citations, content, links, competitors and wider local visibility.
