Website Design & Development in Nottingham

A website you can edit, that I check again after launch

I build practical WordPress websites for Nottingham service businesses, planned around real services, customer decisions, search foundations and clear enquiry routes.

Most website projects end when the site goes live. I return at 30 days and 90 days to check whether important pages are being found, forms still work and relevant people are arriving. Those checks are included, not an upsell.

New five-page websites start at £1,200. Additional pages are £95 each. Redesigns of websites with existing search traffic start at £1,500. Most standard five-page builds take three to four weeks.

Purpose before appearance

Website design for Nottingham service businesses

Website design is the process of planning and building how a site communicates, works and guides people—not simply choosing how it looks.

For a service business, that means making the offer understandable, separating genuine services into useful pages, showing enough evidence to support a decision and providing a clear route to call, enquire or book. It also means ensuring the website remains usable on mobile devices and manageable after launch.

A project can be a completely new website, a careful redesign of an existing site, or improvements to specific pages and templates. Each build is planned around the business’s real services, useful page structure, mobile use, clear enquiry routes and manageable editing.

This service primarily suits trades, professional services, hospitality businesses, local retailers, start-ups and established service businesses whose current websites are difficult to use, edit or find through search.

Nottingham relevance should be real. Website design can be delivered remotely. Local knowledge helps when planning genuine services, customers and locations, but inserting place names into generic pages does not make a website locally useful. SEO Agency in Nottingham serves Nottingham organisations without claiming an unverified customer-facing office in the city.

For a new branch directory or a rebuild spanning several genuine operating locations, Multi-Location SEO defines the location model and governance before templates are scaled.

What a Nottingham service business needs from a website

Customers around Nottingham may describe their location by town or by the wider city. Beeston, West Bridgford, Arnold and Hucknall are examples of places a business might genuinely serve. The website should describe its real coverage clearly, using terms customers recognise.

That has two practical consequences for a build. First, coverage has to be stated in the names customers use, on pages that genuinely have something different to say—not one town page per suburb with the name swapped. Second, some local service businesses have no shopfront: they work from a unit, a home office or the customer’s address. The site has to make the service area and the booking route obvious, rather than implying a walk-in you cannot offer.

Clothing Alterations Nottingham is an appointment-only studio in Hucknall. Its site was built around individual service pages and published prices because that is how its customers decide—not because it looked better.

Brochure and service websites

The published starting prices cover standard service-business websites. They do not automatically include every integration or custom feature.

Separately scoped projects

WooCommerce, memberships, multilingual websites, directories, complex bookings and custom applications require separate discovery and pricing.

Choose the right level of change

A new website, a redesign or focused improvements

Not every business needs a complete rebuild. If the current platform and structure remain suitable, improving several important pages or templates can be safer and more economical than replacing the whole site.

New website Website redesign
Begins without an established website structure Must account for existing pages, URLs and performance
Requires new sitemap and content planning Requires an audit of what should be retained
Has no existing organic visibility to protect May lose visibility if useful URLs or content change carelessly
Requires new analytics and Search Console setup Existing measurement should be checked and preserved
Can establish a clear structure from the outset Must balance improvement with continuity
Requires launch checks Requires redirects, migration checks and post-launch monitoring

A redesign is not simply a new visual layer. It changes a working business asset. Existing pages, links, forms, tracking and search performance need to be understood before they are replaced. If nothing needs rebuilding and you want a broad health check, the SEO audit with implementation is the more appropriate starting point.

A defined, testable scope

What is included in a website project?

The exact scope is agreed in writing, but a typical brochure build may include:

  • Business, customer and service discovery
  • A proposed sitemap and navigation structure
  • Responsive homepage and internal-page layouts
  • Maintainable WordPress setup
  • Header, footer and reusable sections
  • Approved content and image implementation
  • Forms, telephone and email links
  • Foundational search configuration
  • Accessibility and performance checks
  • Analytics and Search Console preparation where included
  • Form, link, mobile and launch testing
  • Administrator access and agreed handover
  • 30- and 90-day post-launch checks

The proposal identifies the page count, templates, features, content responsibilities, revision rounds, third-party costs, exclusions and launch conditions. Later functionality is quoted as a change to scope rather than squeezed into an ambiguous package.

Clear definitions, not vague promises

What search foundations are built into the website?

“SEO included” can mean almost anything unless it is defined. Here it means the build can establish a logical site structure, crawlable navigation, clear page purposes, planned URLs, editable metadata, sensible headings, internal links, canonical and sitemap configuration, mobile usability, image handling, redirects where required, and preparation for analytics and Search Console.

It does not mean ongoing keyword research, unlimited copywriting, link acquisition, citation work, Google Business Profile management or a promise that a new site will immediately rank.

Inside the website project

Structure, templates, responsive implementation, agreed content, core search settings, launch safeguards and post-launch checks.

Separate specialist services

Technical SEO handles deeper crawling and indexing work. Content and On-Page SEO covers wider copy and intent work. Local SEO develops ongoing Nottingham visibility. Google Business Profile covers the profile itself.

Good foundations reduce avoidable problems. Continued performance still depends on the offer, content, demand, competition, local relevance, authority and future maintenance.

Practical ownership and editing

Why I build service-business websites in WordPress

WordPress suits businesses that need to update opening hours, prices, services, photographs and pages without commissioning a developer for every ordinary change.

I use established WordPress tools and reusable layouts rather than describing every build as fully bespoke. The right implementation depends on the project, but the aim is the same: a responsive website with understandable editing, a controlled plugin set and no unnecessary complexity.

Hand-coded platforms can be an excellent choice when a business has development support and values tight technical control. WordPress is often more practical when the owner or team needs familiar content management and a wider support market. One is not universally better; they serve different operating needs.

Who owns the website?

Once the project has been paid in full, the bespoke website files and content created specifically for you are yours, subject to third-party rights and licences. Your domain and hosting remain yours where they are registered in your name. Premium theme or plugin licences are registered to you or itemised so you can take them over, and administrator access is handed over at launch.

Ownership, hosting and third-party subscriptions are written into the project agreement before work starts. They should never be left until the relationship ends.

Use our website ownership checklist to check your domain, hosting, administrator access and content rights.

Structure before styling

How the website is planned

Planning covers your goals, priority services, customers, genuine service locations, conversion actions, existing performance, available content and trust evidence. It produces a sitemap, a purpose for each page, navigation routes and a defined scope. A page exists because it answers a distinct customer need—not because a competitor has one.

Content is shared work. You supply or approve accurate service information, prices, policies, team details, photographs and legal wording. Where copy support is included, its revision allowance and fact-checking responsibilities are stated in the proposal. Unverified AI-generated copy is not published as business fact.

Responsive use

Readable text, touch-friendly controls, logical content order, stable layouts and usable forms across representative mobile, tablet and desktop widths.

Accessibility-informed

Colour contrast, headings, keyboard operation, form labels, descriptive links, alternative text, focus states and semantic HTML.

Performance-aware

Correctly sized images, modern formats, caching, restrained plugin use and layout-stability checks.

Accessibility-informed testing reduces common barriers, but an automated score is not proof of conformance. Full conformance needs an agreed standard, complete testing scope and ongoing content discipline. See the W3C WCAG 2.2 Recommendation.

A perfect Lighthouse score is not promised: lab tests and real-user data measure different things, while hosting, devices, connections and third-party scripts affect results.

Protect what already works

Rebuilding a website that already receives search traffic

Before redesigning an established website, I record its important URLs and review available Search Console and analytics data. Useful page purposes and content are identified, old URLs are mapped to relevant new destinations, redirects are prepared, and staging is kept out of search.

Before and after launch, the work checks important URLs, redirects, canonicals, internal links, sitemaps, robots controls, forms and measurement.

Google’s guidance for a site move is to prepare a URL mapping, use server-side permanent redirects, and expect temporary ranking fluctuation while signals are processed. Careful preparation reduces avoidable risk; it cannot guarantee that every ranking will remain unchanged.

If visibility has already fallen after a previous rebuild, SEO Recovery owns the separate work of diagnosing what changed and why.

Accountability after handover

How I check my own work after launch

Most website projects prove that the pages went live. That is necessary, but it does not establish what happened afterwards.

For new websites and qualifying redesigns, I include a 30-day and 90-day check using the relevant data available. Depending on the project, that can include:

  • Important pages remain accessible under the agreed launch state
  • Redirects reach intended destinations
  • Search Console is collecting data
  • Forms and recorded conversions work
  • Clicks, impressions and landing-page patterns
  • Whether visits are relevant, not merely more numerous

Comparisons use equivalent periods where possible and account for seasonality, tracking changes and previous visibility. A technical correction can be validated directly; a later ranking movement cannot automatically be attributed to one design decision.

A real WordPress example

Recent WordPress work

Clothing Alterations Nottingham

A client website I built and continue to develop. It runs on WordPress with individual service pages covering dress, wedding, bridesmaid, prom, suit, trouser, coat and jacket, and curtain alterations, general tailoring and zip repairs, alongside published prices, appointment and contact routes, and a guidance blog. It demonstrates service-page architecture, responsive implementation, local business information and content expansion within WordPress.

This example shows work completed; it does not prove that design alone caused any search or commercial result. Any future case study using traffic, ranking or conversion figures will identify the data source, dates, changes and material limitations.

From discovery to monitoring

The website-design process

Consultation and existing-site review

Clarify the business, customers and problem; assess useful pages and migration risks where a site already exists.

Scope and proposal

Agree pages, features, responsibilities, revisions, costs and exclusions.

Architecture and content

Plan the sitemap, page purposes, navigation and required evidence.

Wireframes and visual direction

Agree the information hierarchy before templates are built.

WordPress build

Construct responsive pages and configure approved functionality.

Testing and launch

Check layouts, forms, links, metadata, accessibility basics and performance; back up, deploy and inspect technical signals.

Handover and monitoring

Provide agreed access and guidance, then complete the 30- and 90-day checks.

Most five-page builds take three to four weeks from approved scope to launch, provided content and feedback arrive when agreed. Redesigns, additional pages and bespoke functionality take longer, and the proposal gives a range for the project.

The proposal defines design concepts and revision rounds, who consolidates feedback, what counts as a revision and what becomes additional scope. Launch happens only after approval.

Clear responsibilities

What you provide and what I provide

I provide within the agreed scope You provide or approve
Strategy, sitemap and page layouts Accurate business and service information
WordPress implementation Prices, policies and operational conditions
Content support where included Brand assets, photographs and factual approval
Technical and measurement setup Legal text or qualified legal advice
Testing, launch and post-launch checks Consolidated feedback and final approval

Privacy policies, cookie information, terms and form wording must reflect the real business and tools used. I can implement approved material, but generic templates are not guaranteed to meet every organisation’s legal obligations, and this service is not legal advice.

Images must be owned, licensed or used with permission. AI-generated people, premises, staff or completed work must not be presented as genuine business evidence.

Build the platform, then develop visibility

Website design versus ongoing SEO

Website design Ongoing SEO
Plans and builds the website Develops search visibility after and beyond launch
Establishes structure and user journeys Refines content, authority and search targeting
Implements agreed technical foundations Monitors and improves search performance
Produces responsive page templates Responds to changing demand and competition
Has a defined scope and launch Usually continues over an agreed period
Cannot guarantee rankings at launch Cannot guarantee rankings, but supports continued improvement

A website can be technically ready for search without having the content, local prominence or authority needed to compete. Website design creates the platform; ongoing SEO develops it.

Published starting prices

Website design pricing

Project Price
New brochure website, up to five pages from £1,200
Additional standard pages £95 each
Redesign of an established website with search traffic from £1,500
Post-launch search checks at 30 and 90 days included

The final price depends on templates, total pages, content, integrations, migration work, bespoke functionality, accessibility scope and revision requirements. Ecommerce, memberships, complex bookings, custom development, professional photography and legal writing are separately assessed.

Hosting and maintenance are not included in the build price. If either is arranged, it is quoted separately with its recurring cost and limits. Premium theme and plugin licences are itemised before anything is bought.

Honest project boundaries

What website design cannot promise

A website project cannot guarantee first-page rankings, a fixed number of leads, a perfect PageSpeed score, unchanged rankings after every redesign, legal or WCAG conformance without a suitably scoped assessment, or protection from every outage or security incident.

It also cannot compensate indefinitely for an unclear offer, missing business evidence, slow client approvals or inaccurate content.

What I can provide is a defined scope, evidence-led structure, responsive WordPress implementation, recorded launch checks, transparent limitations and post-launch review of the work delivered.

Questions before you commission a build

Frequently asked questions

How long does a website take?

Most five-page builds take three to four weeks from approved scope to launch, assuming content and feedback arrive when agreed. Redesigns, larger sites and bespoke functionality take longer and receive a specific range in the proposal.

Will a redesign affect my Google rankings?

It can. Changes to URLs, content, navigation, redirects and technical signals may affect visibility, and Google says to expect temporary fluctuation during a move. Careful migration work reduces avoidable risk but cannot guarantee unchanged rankings.

Is SEO included in the website price?

Foundational structure and configuration are included as defined on this page. Ongoing content, authority building, Local SEO and wider search campaigns are separate services.

Who owns the completed website?

Once the project has been paid in full, you own the bespoke website files and content created specifically for you, subject to third-party rights and licences. Premium licences are registered to you or itemised so you can take them over, and the arrangement is written into the project agreement.

Are hosting and maintenance included?

No. They are not part of the build price. If you want either arranged, it is itemised separately with its recurring cost and limits.

Choose the right starting point

Request a website review

Send your current website if you have one, whether this is a new build or redesign, your main services, required pages, essential functionality, content status, preferred launch period and approximate budget.

The initial review establishes whether you need a new website, a careful redesign or improvements to what already exists. It is not free design work or an unlimited specification exercise. If another service is the better starting point, I will say so.
